TALK | Fishing Fanatic: George Stephen and the Salmon, by Alexander Reford

George Stephen was an avid salmon fisherman. In addition to building fishing camps in Causapscal and Grand-Métis, he fished the Rimouski and Tummel rivers in Scotland. Born in Scotland, Stephen was hooked on salmon fishing at an early age. Once in Canada, he explored salmon rivers and shared his passion with his family and distinguished guests. With the help of research carried out by teams from the Matamajaw Historic Site and the Reford Gardens for the Fishing Guides exhibition, Alexander Reford presents in images and anecdote George Stephen's love of salmon fishing and how this love has shaped the region's landscape and economy.

Alexander Reford is director of the Reford Gardens. He is the author of the biography of George Stephen in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography and several articles on Elsie Reford and her love of salmon fishing.
