MATHIEU DAVID GAGNON

Student turned master, Mathieu David Gagnon has an unusual background. After obtaining a DEC in classical guitar, he obtained a bachelor's degree in writing at the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal. With the ambition to learn the art of fugue, he left for France in 2011. He spent the next three years studying writing and orchestration, traveling between the Conservatoire d'Aubervilliers in Paris and the Conservatoire de Bordeaux. His mastery and talent earned him honorable mentions, including the First Prize for Fugue and the Prize for Counterpoint and Harmony. At the end of this curriculum abroad, Mathieu returned home with the expertise that would finally give him the means to achieve his ambitions.

After working for a decade in the shadow of several projects as an arranger, orchestrator, musical director and producer, he finally decided to give life to his own inspiration. Thus, after many years of exploration and experimentation, Flore Laurentienne was born, an instrumental project that took the Quebec musical landscape by surprise in 2019. His first album, Vol.I, has earned numerous recognitions, including seven nominations and two Felix awards at the 2020 ADISQ gala. His second album, Vol.II, is scheduled for release in October 2022, under the prestigious American label RVNG Intl. as well as Montreal's Costume Records.
