Accompanying musicians: Cylia Themens et Jean Humpich
Host: Annie Landreville
With L'habitude des ruines, Marie-Hélène Voyer questions our relationship to built heritage, between her childhood in Le Bic, where the family farm was destroyed by fire, and the "Monster Houses" of our suburbs; Robert Lalonde, a writer, “flâneur” and nature lover, saw 40 years of life swept away by the fire of his century-old house in 2018, which led him to ask questions about disaster and reconstruction in La reconstruction du paradis.
This meeting between two magnificent authors will be about heritage, memory, fires and the love of the land. Guided by host Annie Landreville, the authors and the audience will be lulled by the music of two local musicians, percussionist Cylia Themens and multi-instrumentalist Jean Humpich.
Marie-Hélène Voyer, born in Le Bic in 1982, teaches literature at the Cégep de Rimouski. A poet and essayist who describes herself as serenely haunted, her writing projects revolve around the themes of ruin, memory, territory and anxiety. She has published the poetry collections Expo habitat and Mouron des champs (La Peuplade, 2018 and 2022) as well as the essays Terrains Vagues (Nota Bene, 2019) and L'habitude des ruines (Lux éditeur, 2021).
Robert Lalonde is an actor and writer. He has published some thirty novels, stories and notebooks. A keen observer, his notes on the art of looking at and observing the world are at the heart of his writing process. His work has been rewarded with several prizes and honors, from La Belle Épouvante (Prix Robert-Cliche in 1981) to La reconstruction du paradis (Boréal, 2021), a finalist for the Governor General's Award, which he had already won with Le Petit Aigle à tête blanche in 1994.
