The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Johanne Deschênes as General Director of Les Jardins de Métis. She will officially assume the role on May 20, succeeding Alexander Reford, who had announced last fall his intention to step down after 30 years of visionary leadership. Mr. Reford will continue to support the organization and share his expertise as Commissioner of the Gardens’ Centennial.
Ms. Deschênes brings to this position a wealth of experience and a people-centered approach. A seasoned manager and agile leader, she combines strategic vision, team development, and a strong spirit of collaboration. Originally from Rimouski and a long-time visitor to the Gardens, she sees this new role as a meaningful opportunity to continue Alexander’s legacy and, above all, the mission initiated by Elsie Reford: to make the Gardens a place of innovation, beauty, and dialogue between nature and culture.
As the Gardens approach their 100th anniversary, this appointment marks an important step in the organization’s renewal. Upon her arrival, the new General Director will benefit from the support of a dedicated and highly skilled team. The management team and the members of the Board of Directors are excited to begin this new chapter and ensure a bright future for the iconic Les Jardins de Métis.
