2023-09-05

Grand-Métis, September 5, 2023 – The International Garden Festival is pleased to announce the start of the RBC autumn residences at the Maison d’Ariane in Métis-sur-Mer. The residency program is funded by the RBC Emerging Artists program of the Royal Bank of Canada to contribute to the development of the talents of tomorrow and to assist organizations that offer opportunities to young artists to advance their careers.

From now until October 1 we are welcoming Penélope Desjardins and Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc, two emerging artists who together have less than ten years of experience in their respective fields. During their creative residencies, they will offer workshops and performances for the generate public.

This program provides funding to organizations dedicated to supporting artists in various fields (visual arts, music, theatre, performing arts, literature and film) who are at the beginning of their career; are creating new work; demonstrate a commitment to devote more time to their art; are involved in the creative environment in which they evolve; devote at least 24 hours per week to the practice of their art; are financially committed to the practice of their art and seek to derive their primary income from their artistic activity; have little history of presentation, exhibitions or publication; identify themselves as emerging artists.

About the International Garden Festival

The International Garden Festival is the leading contemporary garden festival in North America. Since its inception in 2000, more than 250 gardens have been exhibited at Grand-Métis and as extra-mural projects in Canada and around the world. Presented at the Reford Gardens, at the gateway to the Gaspé Peninsula, the Festival is held on a site adjacent to the historic gardens created by Elsie Reford, thereby establishing a bridge between history and modernity, and a dialogue between conservation, tradition and innovation. Each year the Festival exhibits conceptual gardens created by more than seventy architects, landscape architects and designers from various disciplines in a pristine environment on the banks of the St. Lawrence River.
